Books I Reread Every Year - HolySmorgasBlog - 1A

"

As with any book, teacher, or mind outside of God’s, there are mistakes and imperfections. It’s important that we ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read or hear from any person so as to discern the false from the True—the more intimately we know Him and His Word, the more likely we are to know the difference.

In no particular order…

SAFE PEOPLE

By Henry Cloud and John Townsend
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2LcccPD

WHY?
Because we’re dealing with imperfect and often troubled people daily, we need wisdom on how to be in relationship with them—or not. We need to be able to flag who is unsafe and who isn’t, even if it’s ourselves.

This book is one of the clearest and most profound breakdowns of people and characteristics that should and should not be a part of our lives. It may better help you spot and articulate the healthy from the toxic.

THE AUTHORITY OF THE BELIEVER

By John A. Macmillan
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3n0yNM1

WHY?
I don’t know if you’ve ever read a book that so supports and underscores the bible so well that you have to periodically yelp from the revelation or stop and praise God, but this is what happens to me every time I read it.

It was unavailable for a long time so people were printing and sharing them but it is now available (with extra chapters).

Enjoy!

MIGHTY PREVAILING PRAYER

By Wesley L. Duewel
Amazon: https://amzn.to/38M6PyE

WHY?
I’d had years of miraculous supernatural experiences while in personal and corporate intercession that only my immediate prayer-warrior partners had experienced (as far as I knew).

The veteran prayer warrior “Moms” of the group would answer a lot of my crazy questions regarding things I was seeing and experiencing; and the ways God was using me. They were able to point me to where these things were biblically and also provide answers to some of the mysteries of God within prayer.

But when I got my hands on this book. I devoured it. It was my prayer life and experiences in print.

It’s quite a meaty read so I’d recommend this book to anyone committed to and serious about intercession and victory in spiritual warfare—especially you who have a special faith and calling as an Intercessor.

EVIDENCE THAT DEMANDS A VERDICT

By Josh McDowell (new version includes his son, Sean McDowell)
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3hwGVmm

I skim through all of my notes and highlights more than thoroughly read the whole book annually.

WHY?
Because it nostalgic and brings me back to the night I got saved.
This is the book I was reading when God revealed Himself me. It’s when my life was changed in what seemed like an instant. I don’t think it was meant to be evangelistic as much as informational and testimonial but it was my time. It spoke the language I needed at the time: I was a skeptic (very critical of Christians and Christianity)—this book is written from the perspective of a skeptic.

I WILL ENCOURAGE MYSELF

By Kimberly Arland
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3mZzrJO

I wrote this book due to others’ prodding and actually read chunks of it daily.

WHY?
I need it. It’s filled with scriptures that encourage and focus our hearts and minds on God’s omnipotence and His eternal, perfect love for us. And it reminds us of who we are in Him.

THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP

I recommend almost any John C. Maxwell Leadership book. Especially THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3pxFOps

WHY?
We’re all leading and following to some degree and I’ve found Maxwell is one of the best teachers on the subject.

RICH DAD, POOR DAD

By Robert T. Kiyosaki
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3hA0muG

WHY?
Most schools (or parents) never teach us about building generational wealth. Robert beautifully illustrates the importance of it and the pervasive American practices that keep many poor.

THE THREE BATTLEGROUNDS

By Francis Frangipane
Amazon: https://amzn.to/386uoTQ

WHY?
This is one of the first books I added to my library back when I got saved. It deals with The Battleground of the Mind, Church, and Heavenly Places. It gave me a broader spiritual view and reminds me that it’s not flesh and blood we’re battling.

HOW YOU CAN BE LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD

By Kenneth E. Hagin
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2JEpqnQ

WHY?
This is sort of a weapon against the times I allow myself to get distracted with To-Do Lists, Calenders, and Milestones—redirecting me to be led by The Spirit of God, not life’s circumstances.

THE BIBLE

THE BIBLE

WHY? Because it’s…
The Living Word—powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

The Word of God (Hebrews 13:7)

Life (John 1:1-5)

Eternal (1 Peter 1:23)

The gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4, Philippians 1:27)

The gospel (truth) of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:1, Romans 1:9)

The gospel (truth) of the kingdom of God Mark 1:14-15)

The gospel (truth) of the grace of God (Acts 20:24)

Mind-renewing and transforming (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 3:18)

Living Water (John 4:10)

Life and health (Proverbs 4:22)

The blueprint, the foundation to build upon (1 Corinthians 9-12)

The mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)

Prophesy fulfilled (all)

Sustenance (1 Peter 2:2)

THE BIBLE first and foremost. Everything else is supplemental.

Enjoy feeding yourselves.
Much love,
Kimberly
